Fees & Rebates

Fees, Payment & Cancellation Policy:

The Australian Psychological Society’s latest fee schedule (June 2023) sets a rate of $300 per private consultation with a clinical psychologist.  For more information on the fee structure of other work (e.g. report writing and court attendance), please go to www.aps.com.au.

Most practitioners will offer a discount to the recommended fee for payment on the day.   Please speak with your practitioner about their fee structure, payment method and cancellation policy.

Depending on the practitioner, payments can be made by cheque, cash, EFTPOS, EFT, Visa, Mastercard and Bankcard.

Generally speaking, a minimum notice of 24 business hours is required if an appointment needs to be changed or cancelled, otherwise a cancellation fee is likely to apply.

Rebates:

If you have been referred via a GP Mental Health Plan or via a Specialist referral, you will be eligible for rebates under Medicare Australia.  The current rebate for a clinical psychology consultation of 50 minutes duration is a minimum of $137.05 (more if you have reached the Safety Net).

If you do not have a GP  Mental Health Plan or Specialist referral, you can self-refer and still be eligible for Private Insurance rebates providing you have Ancillary benefits and your policy includes Clinical Psychology.  If you have any queries, please call your Private Insurance Fund.  Please note,  each Fund differs in regard to the number of sessions they will rebate and how much rebate is given per session.
